Consent to Use/Disclose Tax Return Information

Consent to Use/Disclose Tax Return Information

PURPOSE

This policy is intended to inform you of how we use your tax return information, how tax return information can be used, the consents that must be given to us by you and what the Federal Law requires us to disclose.

HOW WE USE TAX RETURN INFORMATION

We use your tax return information to process and e-file, or mail paper copy tax returns to the Internal Revenue Service (I.R.S.), state governments, and/or local governments on your behalf. We use contact information to create client accounts with our accounting and customer relationships management software (C.R.M). WE DO NOT use your tax return information for 1) marketing purposes, other than to disclose products or services that are included in your tax preparation fees; 2) to sell, rent or share to third-party companies other than those required to process your tax return (our tax preparation software, and/or bank products if applicable); 3) for any other reason than what was  listed in the above statement.

FEDERAL LAW SECTION 7216 OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE

Federal law requires those who are in business that engage in the preparation of tax returns for compensation, who wish to use tax return information for purposes other than the preparation and processing of tax returns, to receive consent from each client, including a listed spouse. Unless authorized by law, or by you providing us consent, we cannot use your tax return information for purposes other than preparing and processing a tax return.

DURATION OF CONSENT

Unless otherwise specified in a Consent to Use Personal Tax Return Information form, or Consent to Disclose Tax Return Information form signed by you, the consent shall remain active for one year.

NOT REQUIRED

Your consent is not required to prepare and process your tax return. It is unlawful for a Tax Professional, or ERO to condition tax preparation services based on your consent to use or disclose your tax return information. If you believe this has happened to you, please submit a ticket for us to investigate.

LIMITATIONS ON DISCLOSURE

You have the right to place limitations on the disclosure of your tax return information. You can do so by specifying those limitations on the consent forms.

REPORTING INCIDENTS

If you believe your tax return information has been disclosed or used improperly in a manner unauthorized by law, or without your permission, you may contact the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) by telephone at 1-800-366-4484, or by email at complaints@tigta.treas.gov.
